Hi, my name is Phil, and this blog exists because in 2014 I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder. I finally had a name for what I had been dealing with for such a long time.
1 in 4 people experience a diagnosable mental health condition every year, and I was one of them. I experienced firsthand the differing reactions people have to mental health. I also realised I needed an outlet to talk about the way my mental health affects and defines me.
That’s where this blog comes in. I had an awful lot to say on the subject of mental health. I wanted to speak up, to share my experiences. To contribute towards breaking down the stigma that is all too prevalent in society.
And so I created this blog to share my story and the issues I have experienced and overcome on my road to stability. Hopefully it is a space where other people can feel free to share their mental health stories, or find some benefit from the way I manage mine.
Every year more and more people are diagnosed with a mental illness or are suffering in silence. I can say first-hand it is terrifying finding out you have a mental health condition. The support and experiences of people who had gone through the same thing helped me greatly. I hope my experiences can do the same for someone else.
